About the Series

Keyes #465. Kotohira reigen koho
This gallery contains 5 numbered catalogue records. All 5 records illustrated. Dates and notes follow the archive’s print catalogue.
The five documented subjects follow the Sakai catalogue’s five-subject listing. Keyes 465.01–465.03 retain their existing assignments; 465.04 and 465.05 are supplementary archive numbers. Printed issue numbers vary between impressions and differ from these archive numbers. The full size of the original series remains unresolved.
The archive retains its December 1884 series date, supported by the dated publication imprints. Sakai also records an 1880 attribution for the five-subject listing.
Numbered variants are documented in Brussels: the flood rescue is No. 2 in JP.07235, compared with No. 6 in the impression shown here; the butterfly design is No. 3 in JP.07233, while the displayed impression has a blank number space. The 2009 Ehime University study records the five subjects under issue numbers 3–7. These numbers alone do not establish seven distinct designs.
